Applied AI Engineer

We're looking for exceptional AI engineers who've shipped breakthrough products that millions actually use.

What You'll Do:

• Ship user-facing AI features across our product ecosystem spanning WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, Beeper, Mesh, and more
• Build and iterate rapidly on AI-powered products that directly impact millions of users
• Move from concept to production quickly, prototyping new AI capabilities
• Collaborate asynchronously with product managers, designers, and engineers across distributed teams
• Stay current with rapid AI developments and translate them into meaningful user experiences

Required Qualifications:

• Proven track record shipping AI features users actively employ
• Production experience with LLMs (both API-based and custom implementations) at meaningful scale
• Full-stack development proficiency with PHP, TypeScript, and React primarily
• Strong machine learning fundamentals with awareness of the field's developments
• Product-first thinking; ability to move fast without breaking things
• Comfortable working asynchronously in distributed teams

Preferred Experience:

• Consumer AI products achieving significant user scale
• WordPress, e-commerce, or messaging platform expertise
• Open source contributions demonstrating technical thinking
• Startup founder or early-stage engineer background

Compensation: $70,000-$170,000 USD base salary, paid in local currency. Pay reflects the potential contribution and impact you can bring. Additional benefits include open vacation policy, home office and co-working stipends, paid three-month sabbatical after five years, and life insurance coverage.
