AI Infrastructure
Agentic Frameworks
About the Role
Caribou helps homecare organizations attract, engage, and retain staff through data-driven recognition, rewards, and coordination tools that make the lives of patients and their caregivers better. We're a small company of ~50 people who are mostly based in the GTA.
We are building on our core product such as deploying AI-powered agentic systems that work alongside agency coordinators to handle routine coordination, outreach, and administrative workflows to improve agency operations. We are hiring a Staff Engineer to help build and scale these systems: foundational infrastructure for autonomous, voice-enabled, multi-step workflows handling shift coordination, caregiver outreach, and intelligent scheduling.
What you'll do:
- Leverage and extend our AI Agent Platform: most new product surfaces will be built on top of our in-house multi-agent system.
- Expand what's possible with our AI Voice Agents: inbound and outbound call handling, webhook-based state resumption, async orchestration.
- Build observable, durable infrastructure with async state management and graceful failure handling.
- Design stateful, multi-step AI workflows: you understand failure modes, retry strategies, and how to build resilient agentic systems.
- Establish engineering patterns and mentor engineers across the agentic stack.
- Translate ambiguous home care workflows into automated systems.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including hands-on work with production LLM/agent systems.
- Strong TypeScript/JavaScript with hands-on experience with Temporal, LangGraph, or comparable frameworks.
- End-to-end architecture ownership and production monitoring.
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Comfortable working with ambiguous operational workflows.
Bonus:
- Stateful multi-step AI workflow design.
- Voice AI platforms (Vapi / Twilio / Retell).
- Durable execution frameworks.
- Regulated domain experience.
Tech stack: TypeScript/Node.js, Vercel AI SDK, AWS Bedrock, Vapi, Temporal, Terraform, AWS, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, GraphQL, React, Datadog, Sentry.
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid, 1 day/week in-office).
