About the Role
Descript seeks a manager for their Agent team to lead development of Underlord, an agentic video editor. The role involves overseeing 5-6 engineers reporting to the Head of AI Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute on team priorities and stakeholder alignment
- Direct team strategy connecting customer needs with technical capabilities
- Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent
- Ensure operational reliability and sustainable execution
- Guide architectural decisions and maintain engineering standards
- Build a best-in-class product experience for agentic video editing interactions
- Tune prompt templates and chat-based editing workflows
- Data-driven experimentation to push the limits on quality for the video editing agent
- Model routing, tool design, and token optimization
- Strengthen evaluation methodologies and product analysis
- Collaborate with AI Research on context management and multimodal exploration
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years software engineering experience
- 2+ years management experience
- Strong technical judgment and architectural guidance capability
- Cross-functional collaboration (Product, Design, AI Research)
- Strategic planning with 12+ month horizon
Preferred: Agent development experience, LLM product leadership, creative tool familiarity
Salary: $222,431 - $261,684 USD
Location: San Francisco, CA or Remote
