Engineering Manager, Agent

Descript seeks a manager for their Agent team to lead development of Underlord, an agentic video editor. The role involves overseeing 5-6 engineers reporting to the Head of AI Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute on team priorities and stakeholder alignment
• Direct team strategy connecting customer needs with technical capabilities
• Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent
• Ensure operational reliability and sustainable execution
• Guide architectural decisions and maintain engineering standards
• Build a best-in-class product experience for agentic video editing interactions
• Tune prompt templates and chat-based editing workflows
• Data-driven experimentation to push the limits on quality for the video editing agent
• Model routing, tool design, and token optimization
• Strengthen evaluation methodologies and product analysis
• Collaborate with AI Research on context management and multimodal exploration

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years software engineering experience
• 2+ years management experience
• Strong technical judgment and architectural guidance capability
• Cross-functional collaboration (Product, Design, AI Research)
• Strategic planning with 12+ month horizon

Preferred: Agent development experience, LLM product leadership, creative tool familiarity

Salary: $222,431 - $261,684 USD
