Staff AI Agent Engineer

Liberate is seeking a Staff AI Agent Engineer to own complex, high-impact AI agent deployments end-to-end for insurance carriers and brokers. You'll design, build, and iterate on agent workflows, prompts, evaluations, and integrations, converting customer-specific solutions into reusable templates, playbooks, and patterns while raising engineering quality standards across the team.

What you'll do:

• Own complex, high-impact agent deployments from design through production
• Design and build agent workflows, prompts, evaluations, and integrations
• Convert customer-specific solutions into reusable templates, playbooks, and patterns
• Collaborate with Product and Platform teams
• Debug agent behavior through structured evaluations and monitoring
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers

What we're looking for:

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Production systems operation expertise
• Python fluency and modern backend systems knowledge (APIs, services, cloud)
• Experience working with LLM-based systems, prompts, tools, or agent frameworks
• Quality reasoning and failure mode analysis
• Direct customer-facing technical problem-solving
• High ownership and judgment

Nice to have:

• Agentic systems, evaluation frameworks, or AI observability experience
• B2B SaaS or regulated environment background
• Pattern extraction from bespoke solutions

Location: Boston, MA or San Francisco (Berkeley), CA (hybrid, 2 days/week in office)
