Senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer - Generative AI

Nordea is hiring a Senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer for Generative AI to build, deploy and monitor production-grade AI applications across the bank. The role is hands-on: turning ideas into prototypes and prototypes into production using LLM APIs, RAG, modern orchestration and agent-based patterns.

About the team
You will join Nordea's AI & Machine Learning team, part of the Group Financial Crime Prevention (GFCP) unit that provides financial crime prevention services across Nordea. The team is around 25 colleagues distributed across Stockholm, Helsinki and Copenhagen. The team has already deployed Nordea's first generative AI product and is now developing additional high-impact generative AI applications.

What you will do

• Identify and prototype high-impact GenAI projects together with business stakeholders
• Build, deploy and monitor production-grade AI applications
• Design a robust evaluation approach to measure and improve application quality
• Help shape best practices, tooling and architecture for Generative AI development
• Support and mentor teammates through hands-on collaboration
• Document models and processes to meet risk and compliance standards

Who you are

• MSc or PhD in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or a related field (equivalent practical experience valued)
• 5+ years building and deploying production ML/AI systems in Python
• 2+ years developing generative AI applications using LLM APIs, RAG, modern orchestration, agent-based patterns or other relevant technologies
• Strong systems design skills for ML and AI applications
• Proven ability to convert ideas into prototypes and production solutions
• Capability to evaluate and improve AI application quality through structured testing
• Strong communication across technical and non-technical audiences
