About the Role

YLD is a software engineering and design consultancy with offices in London, Lisbon, and Porto. We help our clients develop competitive capabilities and create lasting digital solutions. The AI Engineer role builds new AI-powered features that meet client customer needs and improves the Digital Platform with intelligent capabilities. Engineers work in an Agile/Scrum environment emphasizing test-first development, pair programming, and code reviews with continuous delivery practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building new AI-powered features meeting customer needs
  • Continuously delivering AI model integrations and prompt optimizations
  • Collaborating on both traditional and AI engineering initiatives
  • Participating in show-and-tell presentations
  • Attending client internal events

Required Skills & Experience:

Core Programming & AI:

  • Strong JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python proficiency
  • Advanced GenAI/LLM expertise: RAG, embeddings, vector search, prompt engineering, evals, guardrails, caching, chaining, function calling
  • Fine-tuning expertise (LoRA/QLoRA, instruction tuning, RLHF)
  • Agentic architecture design and multi-agent systems

Agentic AI Frameworks:

  • LangChain
  • LlamaIndex
  • LiteLLM
  • CrewAI
  • Mastra
  • API integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic)

Infrastructure & DevOps:

  • CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
  • Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP
  • Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes
  • LLM hosting: vLLM, TGI, local deployment

Data & Databases:

  • Vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma, Qdrant)
  • Traditional databases (PostgreSQL, Neo4j)
  • Data pipeline design for RAG
  • Real-time data streaming

Frontend & APIs:

  • React or modern UI frameworks
  • API design for LLM services
  • Multiple protocols (HTTP, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSockets, MCP)
  • Real-time chat and streaming response handling

Performance & Reliability:

  • High-performance, scalable AI applications
  • Token management and cost optimization
  • Production monitoring and observability
  • Comprehensive testing (unit, integration, AI behavior, security, accessibility)
