Lead AI Engineer, Agentic Systems

AI transformation firm shipping production AI systems for mid-market enterprises in regulated and technical domains: finance, energy, industrials, healthcare. We ship working systems alongside our clients' engineering teams. Small teams, deep expertise, real autonomy on real work. Reports directly to the Catalyst·Wayfare founder.

About the role:

Embed within a client's engineering org to build a multi-agent orchestration platform for one of the country's leading power engineering firms. Architect the engine; design the patterns we replicate at the next client.

Core responsibilities:

• Lead architecture of seven capability agents and the orchestration engine that coordinates them.
• Design state management and orchestration patterns.
• Build on existing RAG foundations.
• Run pilot loops with client engineers and improve LLM reliability.

Requirements:

• 6+ years production software experience; 2+ years shipping LLM/agentic systems in production.
• Strong Python and familiarity with agent frameworks (LangGraph, Letta, or custom).
• Hands-on RAG architecture experience.
• Proven ability to debug and improve LLM reliability (e.g., from ~70% to 95%).
• Client-facing technical communication skills.
• Monthly US travel to one major metro.

Stack: Claude + OpenAI + Gemini + Perplexity APIs in production, open-source models when the math points there. Cursor and Claude Code daily. Vercel, Neon, Sentry. Evals as first-class artifacts.
