This team ensures AI reaches communities that need it most. We partner with nonprofits, foundations, and mission-driven organizations to deploy Claude across education, global health, economic mobility, and life sciences, focusing on raising the floor.

Role Overview

As an Applied AI Engineer, you will leverage deep technical expertise to help partners accelerate their impact through evaluation advising, agent prototyping, and architecture guidance. You will also build ecosystem-level infrastructure to scale impact beyond individual partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a deep technical partner to mission-driven organizations on evals, agent architectures, context engineering, and cost optimization.
  • Provide hands-on support through pair programming, prototyping, and code contributions.
  • Develop public goods infrastructure including benchmarks, MCPs, and Agent Skills.
  • Identify and address challenges unique to social impact partners, feeding findings back to product and research teams.
  • Create technical presentations, demos, documentation, tutorials, and sample code.
  • Help shape team processes and culture during the scaling phase.
  • Travel occasionally for customer workshops and technical engagement.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 4+ years as a Software Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or technical founder.
  • Production experience building LLM-powered applications including prompting, context engineering, agent architectures, evaluation frameworks, and deployment at scale.
  • Builder credibility that earns trust with technical founders and engineering teams. You've shipped products.
  • Experience in ed-tech, healthcare, scientific research, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Teaching and mentoring passion.
  • Scrappy mentality comfortable with ambiguity and multiple responsibilities.

Logistics

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Field of Study: Role-relevant coursework, training, or professional experience.
  • Experience: Correlates with internal job level requirements.
  • Hybrid Policy: Minimum 25% office time in San Francisco or New York City.
  • Visa Sponsorship: Available with reasonable effort if an offer is extended.
