Engineering Manager, AI Engineering: Agent Execution

GitLab seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a 7-person team building secure, scalable AI agent execution capabilities on the Duo Agent platform. The role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management, requiring deep software engineering expertise alongside coaching and delivery oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage distributed team across frontend, backend, and AI engineering
• Deliver core Duo Agent platform capabilities on schedule with high quality
• Collaborate with product and UX to prioritize customer needs
• Participate in technical design for secure, scalable agent systems
• Stay close to code and architecture decisions
• Monitor progress, identify risks, remove blockers
• Coach engineers on technical quality and career development
• Foster inclusive team culture focused on continuous delivery

Required Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams balancing delivery, quality, and growth
• Strong software engineering depth for architectural discussions
• Hands-on understanding of agentic AI in software development and interest in how AI is changing engineering workflows
• Navigate ambiguity in fast-paced environments
• Clear communication and stakeholder management skills
• Familiarity with building/deploying AI products, observability, or reliability systems
• Experience in Python, Ruby, Go, or TypeScript

Core parts of the development are the integration between agents and the runtime environment as well as how to observe and steer agents while they run.

Eligible locations: Ireland, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Kenya, plus US Southeast states.
