Staff Software Engineer, AI Foundations

About the Role

Temporal seeks a Staff Software Engineer to join its AI Foundations team. We accelerate adoption across the AI ecosystem by combining deep use-case understanding with computer systems and software design expertise. We're an action-oriented group that loves to ship fast and blend theory with practice. Agentic development is a huge focus. We maintain a set of agent skills that give Codex, Claude Code, and similar tools a major boost.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic coding systems that can be trusted to deliver high-quality outputs.
• Implement Temporal AI SDK features supporting diverse frameworks and libraries, including plugins for popular open source agent frameworks such as Pydantic AI, AI SDK by Vercel, Google ADK, and OpenAI Agents SDK.
• Develop expertise in AI application development patterns and emerging architectures.
• Own end-to-end delivery of new features with strong reliability and developer experience.
• Work across Python, TypeScript, Java, and Go.
• Serve as a domain expert on AI design patterns, supporting field staff and the developer community, and write public technical documentation.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience and passion for harnessing generative AI, particularly for agents and coding.
• Deep knowledge of concurrent programming.
• A track record of open source contributions.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Customers building on Temporal include OpenAI, NVIDIA, Cursor, Lovable, and Replit.

Compensation

The estimated pay range for this role is $224,000 - $302,400 USD.
