About the Role
Machinify is a healthcare intelligence platform deployed by 85+ health plans serving 270+ million lives. The company specializes in AI-powered claim auditing and financial optimization.
This role involves owning complete problem areas rather than individual tasks. You'll translate vague business challenges ("DRG audit findings aren't holding up on appeal," "expand into new claim types") into technical solutions with measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Convert ambiguous business problems into concrete technical specifications with measurable targets
- Define success metrics before system development and establish evaluation frameworks
- Scope and phase work with explicit decision points and kill criteria
- Set architectural direction for problem areas, choosing the agent topology, the context strategy, the model mix, the evaluation regime
- Lead by example on context engineering, structured outputs, citation grounding, and eval discipline
- Interface with clinical, product, and executive stakeholders
- Leverage Claude Code, Codex, and similar tools as force multipliers
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years applied ML/AI/software engineering experience (or 4+ with advanced degree)
- Two production systems owned end-to-end, ideally including at least one LLM- or agent-based system
- Track record driving vague initiatives to measurable business impact
- Strong stakeholder communication with domain experts
- Deep hands-on agent engineering with topology design and context engineering
- Eval-first instincts and established evaluation infrastructure
- Strong Python engineering with clean abstractions
- Experience with major agent SDKs: OpenAI Agents SDK, Anthropic SDK / claude-agent-sdk, LangGraph
- Power-user fluency with Claude Code/Codex
- Solid VS Code and git proficiency
Strongly Preferred: ownership of metrics trusted by business stakeholders; long-context, citation-grounded systems development; healthcare, legal, or finance experience; technical leadership mentoring engineers; reasoning model experience; production LLM cost control and observability.
Nice to Have: document understanding and OCR; vision-language models and multimodal retrieval; executive/regulatory audience presentation experience.
Benefits: Medical/dental/vision coverage, FSA/HSA, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) match, unlimited PTO, meaningful equity, flexible remote-friendly arrangement.
