Role Summary
The Staff AI Engineer serves as a technical multiplier and strategic collaborator in leveraging AI for financial empowerment. This engineer will lead production AI system design while facilitating safe, seamless AI adoption across the organization. The company seeks builders and collaborators rather than pure research scientists.
Key Responsibilities
- Production RAG Systems: Architect and scale Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines optimizing precision and recall with financial data complexities
- LLM Orchestration & Governance: Implement gateways handling provider failover, load balancing, and prompt caching; manage cost, latency, and availability metrics
- Model Optimization & SFT: Identify supervised fine-tuning opportunities; determine pruning requirements and synthetic data curation approaches
- Context Engineering: Manage dynamic context windows preventing token budget overruns and "lost in the middle" phenomena
- Agentic Workflows: Design frameworks enabling safe LLM interactions with financial APIs within strict guardrails
- Technical Leadership: Provide training and guidance to product engineering teams
- Security: Enforce access controls, output validation, integrity, and non-repudiation with LLMs
- Evaluation Frameworks: Build automated assessment systems (LLM-as-a-judge) detecting hallucinations before customer exposure
Culture & Leadership Expectations
- Navigate hype cycles with judgment, execute calculated risks with mitigation plans
- Treat technologists and product managers as primary customers; build abstractions making correct approaches easy
- View security and privacy controls as enabling infrastructure; flag risks honestly and own mistakes
Required Qualifications
- Experience designing systems capturing production feedback for ground truth datasets
- Expertise with BigQuery and VertexAI
- Production Python, LangChain, and LangGraph experience
- Model tuning and production monitoring experience
- PCI or other highly regulated environment experience
Nice-to-Have
- AWS Bedrock and SageMaker experience
- Data engineering background
