Salesforce seeks a Lead AI Engineer for their AI Research Incubation Team to design and build production-grade AI agent systems that transform research into scalable platform capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design AI agent systems including lifecycle management, orchestration, and execution control
  • Develop scalable pipelines for tool invocation, agent planning, memory, and state management
  • Collaborate with AI researchers to operationalize research outputs
  • Define best practices for agent reliability, safety, observability, and cost control
  • Lead API and service design for agent runtime and coordination
  • Drive architectural decisions for agent frameworks
  • Troubleshoot complex system-level issues
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years backend or distributed systems engineering experience
  • Strong Python proficiency
  • Production system experience with LLMs, AI services, or agent workflows
  • Deep understanding of RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Strong debugging skills across distributed systems
  • Excellent cross-team collaboration abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • AI agent frameworks and orchestration systems experience
  • RAG systems, vector databases, or memory architecture familiarity
  • Safety guardrails and AI observability implementation
  • Event-driven architecture and message queue exposure
  • Research-adjacent environment experience

Compensation

  • Standard: $172,500-$260,100
  • SF/NYC metro: $207,800-$285,800

Location: Telecommute / Palo Alto, California Employment Type: Full-time
