AI Engineer (Research & Development)

Bandwidth is a global software company that helps enterprises deliver exceptional experiences through voice, messaging, and emergency services. We are looking for an AI/ML Engineer for our Research & Development team in Raleigh, NC.

Responsibilities

• Investigate emerging AI/ML research, particularly in large language models
• Design and build proof-of-concepts and prototypes for novel AI-powered features
• Implement and integrate ML models into potential products
• Experiment with advanced prompting strategies, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and agentic systems
• Stay current on AI developments and new tools
• Present findings to stakeholders

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, AI/ML, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years designing and evaluating AI/ML systems
• Python proficiency with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face)
• Hands-on LLM experience including RAG and prompting techniques
• Startup mentality with comfort in ambiguous environments
• Full-time Raleigh office presence required

Bonus Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's/PhD)
• LLM training and fine-tuning experience
• MLOps and cloud ML platform familiarity (AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, Google AI Platform)
• AI agentic frameworks experience (e.g., LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen)
• Experience with LLM-powered IDEs (GitHub Copilot, Cursor)
