About the Role
Kepler is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in New York City (on-site, 22 Vanderbilt Ave). Kepler is the agent harness - the infrastructure layer that wraps around AI models to make their outputs reliable, traceable, and verifiable. The LLM orchestrates (deciding what data to gather, what to compute, how to structure output) while every actual data point flows through deterministic code pipelines with full provenance.
The team has 40+ combined years at Palantir, with the CTO having built Palantir's first AI platform. Backed by founders of OpenAI, Meta AI Research, MotherDuck, dbt Labs, and Square.
What you'll own:
- Architect and build core systems that power Kepler's AI research platform
- Critical infrastructure: backend services that orchestrate AI workflows, data pipelines processing billions of data points, systems that financial professionals rely on for million-dollar decisions
- Shape technical direction, mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions
Within first 90 days:
- Own and ship a major production system end-to-end
- Drive architectural decisions that shape platform direction
- See your code power research at top financial institutions
- Mentor engineers and establish engineering best practices
What you'll do:
- Architect backend systems: scalable services that orchestrate AI workflows, manage data pipelines, integrate with enterprise financial tools
- Build enterprise data integrations: ingest and normalize data from public filings, earnings transcripts, market data feeds, research reports
- Integrate AI into production: language models and AI capabilities powering intelligent research workflows
- Drive technical direction and own systems end-to-end
- Optimize performance and ship with production excellence
- Mentor and grow the team
Requirements:
- 6+ years software engineering experience shipping production applications at scale
- Backend: Python or Node.js, API design, PostgreSQL, AWS
- Architecture: proven track record designing and scaling distributed systems
- Data: large datasets, ETL pipelines, analytics infrastructure
- Technical leadership and mentoring
- Strong communicator
- Financial services experience preferred but not required
Technical stack:
- Backend: Rust (agent orchestration, data extraction, computation pipelines)
- Frontend: TypeScript, React
- Data: PostgreSQL
- Infra: AWS
- AI: model-agnostic by design, currently Claude and GPT
Benefits: 100% covered medical/dental/vision, HSA maxed by company, life/AD&D/disability, daily lunch, unlimited PTO, top-of-the-line MacBook Pro setup, 'build anything' budget, learning budget.
Compensation: $200,000–$250,000 + equity.
