Principal Software Engineer (AI) — PointClickCare
Team: AI Engineering & Enablement
Location: Remote, US (with travel to Mississauga and/or Salt Lake City offices for onboarding, team events, and semi-annual/annual meetings)
Job Summary
The Principal AI Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for driving PointClickCare's AI-first and data-first transformation. The role focuses on delivering production-grade AI systems, including agentic and data-driven solutions, that are secure, scalable, and compliant with healthcare regulations. Beyond technical work, this position involves coaching engineering teams and partnering across product, engineering, and operations to identify AI innovation opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead reference architecture for AI and agentic systems
- Design production-ready AI systems ensuring reliability, scalability, and observability
- Establish platform-level AI/data components (model brokers, orchestration services, evaluation frameworks)
- Design end-to-end AI data pipelines with document ingestion, embeddings, and vector stores
- Partner with product and data teams on measurable outcomes
- Mentor senior and intermediate engineers
- Embed responsible AI and security-by-design principles aligned with HIPAA and NIST AI RMF
Required Frameworks & Tools
- LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, LlamaIndex
- RAG and agentic architectures
- Vector databases and embeddings
- OCR, NER, and NLP preprocessing
Required Expertise
- Large-scale data pipelines
- Offline/online evaluation methodologies
- Security-by-design in regulated SaaS environments
Preferred
- Healthcare/regulated industry AI deployment (HIPAA-aligned)
- Model serving infrastructure
- Multi-model routing patterns
- Master's degree in AI, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
