About the Role
AI Engineer - Enterprise
Company: Hilbert's AI Location: San Francisco, California (Hybrid with occasional travel)
Hilbert is developing an agentic reasoning platform that transforms extended decision cycles into rapid outcomes by orchestrating multi-step inference across fragmented enterprise data. The company serves Fortune 500 enterprises and recognized brands including FreshDirect, Blank Street, and Levain Bakery.
Primary Responsibilities
Building AI Systems
- Design and implement agent-based workflows using LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks
- Develop AI-driven features and production pipelines serving enterprise customers
- Own systems from experimentation through deployment and monitoring
- Construct and refine evaluation pipelines measuring AI performance
- Make engineering tradeoffs between accuracy, latency, and cost
Enterprise Customer Partnership
- Serve as technical AI advisor for major accounts, understanding their operational workflows
- Present AI capabilities and results to senior stakeholders with clarity and nuance
- Translate customer business challenges into agentic solutions
- Design customer-specific configurations integrating with diverse platforms
- Communicate evaluation findings building customer confidence
Core Technical Challenges
- Intelligent retrieval combining RAG, graph-based approaches across heterogeneous data environments
- Robust agentic workflows handling edge cases and escalating appropriately to human oversight
- Systematic evaluation frameworks predicting real-world performance
- Multi-platform agent integration with human-in-the-loop safeguards
Required Qualifications
- Strong software engineering foundation with production-ready code quality
- Hands-on experience building with LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent orchestration tools
- Proven ability presenting technical work to senior enterprise stakeholders
- Product-oriented mindset understanding business context drives technical decisions
- Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- Ownership mentality and startup-speed execution
Preferred Experience
- Customer-facing technical roles (solutions engineering, applied AI, technical account management)
- Building evaluation pipelines and metrics for AI systems
- Backend software engineering (APIs, services, data infrastructure)
- RAG, vector databases, or LLM-powered search systems
- Retail, e-commerce, or enterprise B2C environments
- Early-stage startup experience
