AI Engineer Lead

Allstate is hiring an AI Engineer Lead as a hands-on developer pairing daily with other engineers and guiding adoption of LLMs, RAG, vector stores, and agentic frameworks. The role focuses on establishing AI engineering standards, participating in hands-on AI/ML projects, and collaborating with stakeholders to iterate rapidly on proof-of-concept solutions before transitioning them to production-ready implementations.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the transition of AI/ML initiatives from proof of concept to scalable, production-ready solutions
• Implement RAG architecture with ingestion pipelines and chunking strategies
• Implement agentic workflows and A2A patterns such as multi-agent collaboration (planner/executor/reviewer/retriever roles)
• Apply MCP (Model Context Protocol) patterns and tool integration for agent runtimes
• Establish AI engineering standards and best practices

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years Python development experience
• Minimum 3 years productizing AI/ML solutions
• Strong machine learning fundamentals understanding
• GenAI experience (RAG, fine-tuning, vector stores, agentic frameworks)
• Data-driven decision-making ability
• Technical communication skills across audiences

Technical environment: Advanced Python, LLMs (GPT models preferred), RAG architecture, vector databases, SQL, Azure/Microsoft Fabric, Datadog observability, GitHub Copilot, and production AI system support.

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, IL. Salary $151,700-$221,675 annually.
