About the role

AstraZeneca Spain seeks an Associate Principal AI Engineer to lead the design and delivery of GenAI and agentic AI solutions that transform knowledge management, authoring submissions/reporting, and resource optimization across BPD (Biopharmaceutical Product Development).

Key Responsibilities

• Architect advanced GenAI and agentic AI capabilities for knowledge retrieval, workflow automation, and scientific documentation
• Lead product areas including Ada BPD AI Assistant, SARA submission/reporting automation, and the ML/AI foundational platform
• Implement safety guardrails, hallucination controls, and evaluation frameworks
• Optimize inference for latency, scalability, and cost
• Design secure front-end experiences connecting to AI platforms
• Drive MLOps, CI/CD, monitoring, and compliance standards
• Mentor junior engineers and build the AI engineering community

Required Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
• Production AI application experience in regulated/scientific environments
• Expertise in: LLMs, GenAI, RAG, agentic systems
• Python (TensorFlow, PyTorch), C#, React/TypeScript
• Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, APIs
• Vector databases and embedding models
• CI/CD pipelines, model deployment, monitoring

Preferred Experience

• Biologics development or regulatory submissions background
• AI safety and guardrails implementation
• UX/product collaboration experience
• Global distributed team operations
