About the Role
Capital One seeks a Sr. Distinguished AI Engineer to help create responsible and reliable AI systems on the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team. The role focuses on delivering industry-leading AI capabilities through breakthrough product experiences and scalable, high-performance infrastructure.
What you'll do:
- Partner with cross-functional teams of engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products
- Contribute to platform architecture, publishing canonical APIs for agent orchestration, RAG pipelines, prompt libraries, and multi-tenant policy enforcement
- Standardize and automate agentic workflows by evaluating frameworks (LangGraph, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, LlamaIndex) and hardening patterns for enterprise SLAs so 90% of new apps adopt them
- Craft an end-to-end GenAI SDK, CLI, and starter kits to let AI engineers spin up secure, observable agentic workflows in minutes
- Establish central guardrail services: prompt firewalls, content filters, red-team harnesses, audit APIs
- Optimize orchestration for cost reduction and performance
- Own Kubernetes infrastructure (Helm, operators, CRDs) for agent auto-scaling
- Mentor engineers and represent Capital One at AI conferences
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's in CS/Engineering/AI + 10+ years developing AI/ML algorithms, or Master's + 8+ years
- 10+ years programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java

- 2+ years with LLMOps (Vertex AI, SageMaker, Azure ML)
- 8+ years designing mission-critical ML platforms
- Kubernetes mastery (multi-region, service mesh)
- Experience with LLM inference, vector databases, guardrails, memory systems
- Master's degree preferred
