About the Role:
This is a hands-on technical leadership position (player-coach) managing a 3-engineer LLM team. The role involves architecting, training, and deploying models with significant coding time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ship Code & Lead from the Front:
- Act as player-coach writing production code
- Own the core chat loop: optimize context windows, memory/RAG retrieval, inference latency
- Architect inference optimization for latency/throughput
- Own the Model Lifecycle:
- Drive strategy for SFT (Supervised Fine-Tuning) and RLHF/DPO preference optimization
- Oversee dataset sourcing, labeling, and cleaning for model steerability
- Decide when to architect a new RAG pipeline
- Architect High-Precision Moderation:
- Design sophisticated classifiers for detecting non-consensual/illegal content
- Build nuanced, context-aware moderation systems beyond binary safe/unsafe flags
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years engineering experience shipping ML/LLM features to millions of users
- Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, vLLM, HuggingFace, fine-tuning pipelines, eval frameworks
- Comfortable working with NSFW content and understanding moderation rigor
- Alignment intuition: grasp how prompt conditioning, temperature, and sampling affect chatbot behavior
- Production velocity mindset; distinguish between academic vs. shippable solutions

- Salary: $50,000-$180,000+ USD annually (including equity)
