Staff Software Engineer, AI Developer Tools

Gusto is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to architect AI platforms for internal developer tools. The role focuses on designing and implementing internal tools and platforms that integrate LLMs into the developer workflow with emphasis on autonomous agentic agents.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement internal tools and platforms that integrate LLMs into the developer workflow (e.g. automated PR reviews) with emphasis on autonomous agentic agents
• Collaborate with engineering teams to understand pain points and ensure scalability
• Stay current with emerging AI technologies and research
• Identify development lifecycle bottlenecks and apply AI solutions
• Monitor tool health and diagnose performance issues

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years software development experience
• Systems thinking and production-grade code delivery
• AI-native mindset with hands-on experience
• Rails and Ruby expertise for large teams
• Strong communication translating technical concepts into actionable tools
• Understanding of how to build RAG systems

Technologies: Large Language Models, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG systems, autonomous agentic agents.

Salary: $190,000-$250,000 (varies by location). Location: Denver, CO / SF / NYC / LA / Seattle / Toronto. Stock equity additional.
