About the Role
Microsoft AI (MAI) seeks a Member of Technical Staff to design and construct large-scale Copilot memory and personalization systems leveraging search, embeddings, retrieval, ranking, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
Responsibilities
- Apply subject-matter expertise across cross-product features and multiple groups
- Serve as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) with mentoring duties
- Monitor systems for degradation, downtime, or service interruptions
- Proactively identify emerging technical solutions and performance improvements
- Operate in fast-paced, design-driven development cycles
- Navigate ambiguity and deliver iterative solutions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Computer Science (or related field) AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's degree AND 8+ years experience
- OR Master's degree AND 6+ years experience
- 4+ years building APIs and pipelines for large-scale products
- Experience deploying machine learning or large language model (LLM) applications at scale
- Comfortable operating amid ambiguity
- Experience designing large-scale embedding, retrieval, and ranking systems
Salary
- IC5: $139,900–$274,800 (US); $188,000–$304,200 (SF Bay Area/NYC)
- IC6: $163,000–$296,400 (US); $220,800–$331,200 (SF Bay Area/NYC)
On-site requirement: 4 days/week minimum starting January 2026.
