SENIOR AI ENGINEER, GOVERNMENT TECHNOLOGY

ICON seeks a pragmatic builder transitioning from traditional software engineering into agentic AI development for the Government Technology team. Reports to Senior Director, Defense Technology Programs. Full-time, on-site Austin position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and build agentic AI systems automating complex workflows
• Develop LLM-powered features using foundation models and APIs
• Architect multi-agent pipelines, tool-use systems, and MCP integrations
• Build robust RAG systems with document ingestion and vector retrieval
• Collaborate identifying AI automation opportunities
• Own full development lifecycle: prototyping through iteration
• Mentor on agentic AI best practices
• Stay current with emerging techniques

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years professional software engineering (backend/full-stack)
• Demonstrated production-grade LLM and agentic framework experience
• TypeScript and/or Python proficiency
• Deep prompt engineering and LLM reasoning understanding
• Tool-use, function calling, agent orchestration experience
• Structured evaluation design and execution skills
• Strong cross-functional communication
• Government, defense, or regulated environment experience
• Code generation agent experience

PREFERRED SKILLS

• MCP server development
• Vector database familiarity
• Fine-tuning or RLHF experience
• ML fundamentals background
• Structured output generation knowledge
• AWS and serverless infrastructure experience
• AEC industry background
