About the Role
OpenAI Forward Deployed Engineering Team
Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) lead complex end-to-end deployments of frontier models in production alongside OpenAI's most strategic customers. You will own discovery, technical scoping, system design, build, and production rollout, partnering directly with customer engineering and domain teams. You will measure success through production adoption, measurable workflow impact, and eval-driven feedback that changes product and model roadmaps.
Location: Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid — 3 days/week in office)
Travel: Up to 50% required

Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end technical delivery across multiple deployments from prototype to stable production
- Design and build full-stack systems that generate customer value and inform product learning
- Collaborate closely with customer engineering teams to understand needs and guide adoption
- Establish work scope, sequence deliverables, and eliminate blockers proactively
- Navigate tradeoffs between scope, speed, and quality to protect delivery timelines
- Contribute directly to code when necessary for progress or clarity
- Create reusable tools, playbooks, and building blocks for team leverage
- Provide field feedback that shapes Research and Product roadmaps
- Work closely with Product, Research, Partnerships, GRC, Security, and GTM teams
- Maintain team momentum through clarity and decisive action
Requirements:
- 5+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience with customer-facing components
- Demonstrated success scoping and delivering complex systems in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
- Production-grade code proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks (frontend and backend)
- Experience building or deploying LLM-powered or generative model systems with understanding of how model behavior affects product outcomes
- Ability to simplify complexity and make sound decisions under pressure
- Clear communication across engineering, product, and stakeholder audiences
- Risk identification and rapid adaptation capabilities
