Senior AI/ML Engineer

At SumUp, the Senior AI/ML Engineer role is critical for developing and deploying the next generation of AI-driven solutions that automate support and improve the experience for both merchants and support agents.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the Operations AI team designing and deploying scalable ML/AI solutions in production
• Architect, design, develop, and deploy AI systems ensuring reliability, high performance, and scalability
• Own development and maintenance of core AI products: AI Assistant (automating ~40% of merchant requests), AI Translation (enabling cross-language agent service), and AI Agent Copilot
• Develop and maintain ML infrastructure and pipelines for data processing, model training, serving, and monitoring
• Optimize and fine-tune machine learning models; manage large text datasets
• Apply software development best practices including Git, CI/CD, and unit testing
• Collaborate with Data Scientists, Product Managers, Developers, and stakeholders
• Rapidly master existing AI assistant infrastructure; work on behaviour improvements and agentic rollouts
• Lead Voice Assistant pilot and innovation initiatives

Requirements

• 7+ years as ML/AI Engineer building production systems
• Expert Python proficiency and software engineering skills
• Experience with GenAI/LLM APIs and production LLM evaluation
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• MLOps tools familiarity (MLFlow, Kubeflow, Airflow, Langfuse)
• Kubernetes, Git, Airflow hands-on experience
• Data pipeline and API design expertise
• Docker and CI/CD pipeline knowledge
