Python Developer - Build an AI Analyst (Energy Markets)

Modo Energy is hiring a backend Python engineer to join the team building the Modo Energy Terminal's AI Analyst — an LLM-powered product embedded in the Modo Terminal that helps customers interrogate data and research using natural language. You will build an agentic system that retrieves articles, queries databases, and interprets energy market data.

Responsibilities:

• Build and improve the agentic backend using LangChain-based orchestration, tool design, retrieval pipelines, and prompt engineering on FastAPI
• Design tools (MCPs, CLIs, APIs) for LLMs to work with energy market data
• Build monitoring and evaluation infrastructure
• Manage AWS infrastructure and deployment using Terraform
• Cross-functional collaboration with domain experts and analysts

Requirements:

• 5+ years Python with strong backend fundamentals
• AWS and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• FastAPI or comparable async framework
• Expert-level use of AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot)
• Sound engineering judgment

Nice-to-haves:

• LLM application experience
• Energy market familiarity
